
Apr. 21—DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University senior Peyton Bettcher had an all-tournament finish for the Tigers in the Great Plains Athletic Conference men's golf championship on Tuesday at Dakota Dunes Country Club.
Bettcher, a senior from Hartford, shot a 5-over score of 221 over 54 holes of golf in the conference individual tournament, good for third place. Bettcher had rounds of 73 and 75 on Monday and wrapped up with a 1-over-par-73 on Tuesday.
The tournament was won by Hastings' Max Nielsen, who shot 1-over-par for the tournament (72-74-71—217), while Broncos' teammate Taiki Sugawara was second and shot 219, capped with the round of the day on Tuesday with a 68.
On the team front, DWU finished in sixth place with a score of 935 over three rounds (307-314-314), dropping one team place on the final day. Hastings won the team title with a score of 886, pulling away from Morningside (899) after the teams were tied through 36 holes. Northwestern (905), Dordt (913) and Doane (926) rounded out the top-five teams.
Chamberlain product and sophomore Dakota Munger finished 21st for DWU in the individual scoring, shooting 74-78-80 over the three rounds for a score of 232. Hanson graduate Ben Wilber finished tied for 32nd with a three-day score of 238 (79-77-82) and Madison native Jack Olson was tied for 39th for the Tigers, shooting 244 (81-84-79). Notably, Wilber played the par-5s in the tournament at 3-under-par, which was tied for sixth-best in the field.
DWU freshman Will Jarding, an Alexandria native, played the final two rounds for DWU, shooting 87 on Monday and 82 on Tuesday, while Ryan Flannery had a first-round score of 89 for the Tigers.
The tournament concludes the DWU men's golf season. The DWU women's golf team will compete in the GPAC tournament at Dakota Dunes on April 27-28.
