Spring is in the air, and so is the crack of the bat! The Battle Creek Enquirer is bringing back its fan-favorite Best of Battle Creek (B.O.B.) series, and this year, we’re taking it to the diamond. That’s right—softball and baseball stars are stepping into the spotlight, and we need your vote to crown the area’s top talent.
Each week this spring, we’ll spotlight a different position, from the battery to the outfield, and ask: Who is the best in the city and surrounding area? Nominations come straight from local coaches, who’ve shared a little insight on each player. With the field now expanded to include teams from across the region—think Marshall, Pennfield, Harper Creek, and beyond—the competition is tougher than ever. But that’s where you come in. After we lay out the contenders, it’s up to our readers to decide who earns the B.O.B. title.
Our online polls open each week, and voting runs through noon on the following Tuesday. So, warm up your clicking finger—it’s time to make your voice heard!
Next up: the middle infielders—the quick-handed, sharp-eyed anchors of the defense. These players patrol second base and shortstop, turning double plays and sparking rallies. Here are the nominees for best middle infielder in Battle Creek area softball:
Everley Adams, Gull Lake – A shortstop who commands the infield with both glove and bat. Adams hits in the heart of the lineup, boasting a .453 average with 22 runs scored. Her .921 fielding percentage shows she’s as reliable in the dirt as she is at the dish.
Olivia Branham, Pennfield – The leader of a young Panthers squad, Branham brings veteran poise to shortstop. Her strong defensive skills have been the backbone of the infield, keeping the team steady through every inning.
Addyson Bucklin, Coldwater – Don’t let the freshman label fool you—Bucklin is a rising star on a state-ranked team. Playing second base with high IQ and versatility, she’s hitting .462 with 26 RBIs. A player to watch, no doubt.
Addison Carden, [School] – Growing into a key role as a sophomore, Carden has made her mark at second base. She’s hitting .446 with 46 hits and a .508 on-base percentage, setting the table from the No. 2 spot in the order.
Add [Player Name], [School] – A consistent force at shortstop and hitting in the No. 3 hole, this player brings power and precision to both sides of the ball. Stay tuned for the full profile as voting begins!
Whether you’re a fan of slick fielding or clutch hitting, these middle infielders have earned their spot. Cast your vote, and help us crown the B.O.B. champion of the diamond!
