The Denver Broncos kicked off their rookie minicamp this past weekend, bringing in 60 players—including four tryout veterans—to the team facility for a high-energy introduction to life in the NFL. For head coach Sean Payton, this marked his 19th rookie minicamp, and he shared some candid insights on the evaluation process.
"I like to look at the draft picks, and then any time something catches your attention, you’re looking at the roster to see who it was," Payton said on Saturday. "Part of the messaging at the start of it was, ‘I just can remember tryouts making teams here.’ So your worst fear is that someone leaves here, and then you hear about them later somewhere else. So they’re all going to get evaluated. We’re going to meet at 3, discuss yesterday and today, scouts, coaches get an update, anybody that stood out. Then we have another walkthrough and then the final practice [Sunday]."
The minicamp offered fans and media a first glimpse of the Broncos' newest talent, with several standout moments captured on the field. Running back Jonah Coleman turned heads with shifty moves and explosive runs, showcasing the kind of playmaking ability that could make him a fan favorite. Fourth-round pick Kage Casey, an offensive lineman, also impressed during individual drills, working alongside free agent signing Gavin Ortega to build chemistry early on.
Other rookies making their debut included tight ends Justin Joly and Dallen Bentley, safety Miles Scott, and defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim, all of whom got valuable reps in a competitive setting. The energy was palpable as players fought to leave a lasting impression on the coaching staff.
For Broncos Country, this minicamp was more than just a practice—it was a sneak peek at the future. Whether it's a draft pick or an undrafted hopeful, every snap counts as the team builds toward the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as these rookies continue their journey in orange and blue.
