The Benjamin Buccaneers boys' lacrosse team just made a statement that will echo through the state playoffs: they handed the previously unbeaten Bolles Bulldogs their first loss of the season in dominant fashion. With a commanding 12-4 victory in the Class 1A state semifinal on Thursday, Benjamin proved they are the team to beat as they chase a third consecutive state title.

From the opening whistle, the Buccaneers (15-5) showed why they are a dynasty in the making. While Bolles (23-1) managed to win the first seven faceoffs, that was where their success ended. Benjamin's defense, anchored by senior goalkeeper Tatum Little, shut down the Bulldogs' attack, while the offense came alive with precision and power.

Campbell Hogan set the tone early, firing a rocket into the net off a crisp passing sequence to open the scoring. Jack Kelleher quickly followed with a goal of his own, and alongside Matt Null, the duo exploited open lanes to strike from close range, building an insurmountable lead. By halftime, Benjamin had surged to an 8-2 advantage, leaving Bolles scrambling for answers.

The Buccaneers' defense was the story of the game. Led by Jake Ivancevic, Benjamin's defenders refused to give Bolles any breathing room around the crease, snuffing out scoring opportunities and forcing turnovers. It was a relentless performance that set the stage for a comfortable second half and a berth in the state championship game.

Benjamin will now face the winner of St. Andrew's and Community School of Naples on Saturday, with a chance to complete a three-peat after winning titles in each of the last two seasons. For a program that has become synonymous with excellence, this latest victory is another step toward cementing their legacy.
