Benfica are already planning for a future without Jose Mourinho, with reports suggesting the Portuguese tactician could be on his way back to Real Madrid. According to Portuguese outlet Record, the Lisbon giants have identified Fulham boss Marco Silva as a top candidate to take over the reins next season.

Silva, who previously managed Hull City, Watford, and Everton, has transformed Fulham into a competitive Premier League side since taking charge in 2021. The Cottagers are currently pushing for European qualification, showcasing Silva's ability to build a cohesive, resilient team. However, the 48-year-old's contract expires this summer, and there's no guarantee he'll extend his stay in London—leaving the door open for a return to his native Portugal.

Mourinho, now 63, took over at Benfica last September on a deal running through 2027. But his contract reportedly includes a clause allowing him to leave for Real Madrid. Given Los Blancos' turbulent season—eliminated from the Champions League and struggling in La Liga—a change in the Santiago Bernabéu dugout seems inevitable. Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to be dismissed, and club president Florentino Perez is said to be pushing for Mourinho's return.

Mourinho's previous stint at Real Madrid (2010-2013) was marked by both triumph and tension. He delivered three trophies—a La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España—but also clashed with senior players, creating a volatile atmosphere. Now, with Perez reportedly leading the charge to bring him back, the stage could be set for a dramatic reunion.

For Benfica, the clock is ticking. As Mourinho's potential exit looms, Marco Silva represents a steady, proven option who could bring Premier League experience and tactical discipline to the Estádio da Luz. Whether he swaps Craven Cottage for Lisbon remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: this summer's coaching carousel is just getting started.
