Benavidez vs Usyk In 2027?

Boxing's newest three-division champion, David Benavidez (32-0), made a thunderous statement this past weekend by dismantling former WBO and WBA cruiserweight king Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez in Las Vegas. But even as the dust settles on that dominant performance, whispers of an even bigger challenge are already circulating: a potential showdown with heavyweight superstar Oleksandr Usyk in 2027.

Shortly after Benavidez's victory, Turki Alalshikh told The Ring's Mike Coppinger that he's eager to orchestrate a mega-fight between the unbeaten "Mexican Monster" and Usyk, the current unified heavyweight champion holding WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBO, IBF, and The Ring belts. It's the kind of blockbuster matchup that would have fans buzzing for months.

But don't expect Benavidez to rush into the heavyweight division anytime soon. During the post-fight press conference, the 32-0 phenom was quick to pump the brakes on any immediate move up, admitting that heavyweight fighters are simply too big for him right now. "You guys keep asking me about heavyweight, stop that shit," he said with a laugh. "It was hard for me to come up to 200 pounds. At heavyweight, those guys are super big."

Still, he left the door slightly ajar for the future. "I won't rule it out," Benavidez added. "Maybe in five years, my body grows into heavyweight. Maybe we can go up there and make a fight in five years. I think that's possible."

For now, Benavidez has his sights set on a different legacy. He's eager to return to light heavyweight and build a reign reminiscent of Sergey Kovalev's dominant years as champion. "Right now, I'm champion at light heavyweight and cruiserweight. I think I can defend in both weight classes," he explained. "If I go up to heavyweight, it's forget about both."

Meanwhile, Usyk is preparing for his own unique challenge. After weighing in at 227 pounds for his last bout against Daniel Dubois, the Ukrainian icon is set to face kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven on May 23 at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. It's a fight that adds even more intrigue to an already fascinating heavyweight landscape.

Whether Benavidez eventually answers the call to heavyweight remains to be seen. But for fans of "The Mexican Monster," the journey is just getting started—and the gear to match every step of the way is right here in our collection.
