Ben Shelton is building serious momentum on the clay. The young American, fresh off winning his first ATP doubles title in Houston with former Florida Gators teammate Andres Andrade, now finds himself in a position to make history at the BMW Open in Munich.

For the second consecutive year, Shelton has powered his way into the final. Standing between him and the trophy is a daunting historical stat: no American man has won this event since Ivan Lendl in 1993. In recent years, only Taylor Fritz (2024 finalist) has come as close to ending that long European dominance.

His opponent, Italy's Flavio Cobolli, is riding an emotional wave of his own. Cobolli delivered a stunning, career-best performance to upset hometown hero and three-time champion Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, a victory that moved him to tears. Now, he aims to become the first Italian champion since Martin Mulligan in 1968.

The stage is set for a gripping clash of narratives. While Shelton leads their overall head-to-head 3-2, Cobolli won their sole encounter on clay last year in Geneva. Adding to the stakes, the champion won't just lift the trophy—they'll also drive away in a new all-electric BMW iX3.

Can Ben Shelton rewrite a 33-year-old record, or will Flavio Cobolli complete his emotional run with a historic win of his own? Tune in for the final this Sunday, April 19, at 7:30 AM EDT on Tennis Channel.
