The Laver Cup 2026 is shaping up to be an absolute blockbuster, and the latest addition to Team World has fans buzzing. American tennis sensation Ben Shelton has officially been confirmed for the prestigious team event, set to take place at The O2 in London this September.
Currently ranked No. 6 in the world, Shelton brings explosive power and undeniable charisma to the lineup. He joins fellow American Taylor Fritz and Australia's Alex de Minaur (world No. 8) on Team World, who will be looking to defend their title against a stacked Team Europe roster that already includes Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
This will be Shelton's third Laver Cup appearance, and he's no stranger to the pressure. With an impressive 6-2 record from his outings in Vancouver (2023) and Berlin (2024), the 23-year-old has proven he thrives in the team format. He missed last year's triumphant campaign due to injury, so you can bet he's hungry to make up for lost time.
And what a season he's having. Shelton has already bagged two ATP titles in 2026—winning in Dallas and Munich—bringing his career tally to five. That kind of form is exactly what Team World Captain Andre Agassi and Vice Captain Pat Rafter are counting on.
"It's always an honor to be part of Team World," Shelton said. "Getting the chance to spend a week with legends like Andre and Pat, learning from them and competing alongside this group, is something I really value and that you don't get anywhere else. I've got some great memories from Laver Cup already, and I'm excited to get back out there in London with the guys."
Agassi, a tennis icon himself, shared his excitement about Shelton's addition. "Pat and I couldn't be happier that Ben is joining the team. He is a dynamic talent that will help us in singles, doubles, as well as with his infectious energy in the locker room and from the bench." He also added a personal touch: "There is also a unique layer to his participation as I played against his father, Bryan, numerous times, and to be able to reconnect with him through this process adds a special element."
With single-session tickets already on sale, the September 25-27 event is shaping up to be a must-watch. More player announcements are expected soon, but one thing is clear: Team World is building a squad that's ready to bring the heat, and Shelton's powerful game and electric presence will be a huge part of that.
