The University of North Dakota hockey program continues to build for the future, securing a key transfer commitment to bolster its 2026-27 roster. Kasper Magnussen, a top-line left winger from Bemidji State, has verbally committed to UND following an on-campus visit.

Magnussen is coming off a breakout junior season where he established himself as a major offensive threat, netting 10 goals and 31 points in 36 games to finish second in scoring for the Beavers. The 6-foot, 200-pound forward from Norway brings a potent power-play presence; 12 of his 17 goals over the last two seasons have come with the man advantage, often via a dangerous one-timer.

His game isn't just about finesse, however. Magnussen plays with a noticeable edge and physicality, a combination that makes him versatile enough to slot anywhere in the lineup. This blend of skill and grit is a coveted asset for any team looking to make a deep run.

He brings international pedigree to Grand Forks, having represented Norway at the World Junior Championship. Hockey runs in the family, as his father, Trond, was a longtime professional in Europe and a 1994 Olympian. Kasper will become just the second Norwegian to wear a UND sweater, following forward Ludvig Hoff (2016-19).

This move marks the second transfer from Bemidji State to UND in the portal era, after goaltender Zach Driscoll. The rivalry connection adds an intriguing layer, especially with UND scheduled to open its next regular season at Bemidji State on October 9th.

Magnussen joins a growing list of incoming transfers for the Fighting Hawks, which includes forward Gavin Lindberg (Colorado College) and defenseman Brasen Boser (Arizona State), signaling an active and strategic offseason for the program.
