Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali has broken his public silence on the mid-season departure of manager Enzo Maresca, acknowledging the move has negatively impacted the club's campaign. In a rare public statement, Eghbali confirmed the exit was not a change the club's hierarchy desired, stating, "Our policy has been no in-season changes. It’s not a change we wanted to make."

The Italian's sudden departure on New Year's Day, after 18 months that included a Champions League return and two cup triumphs, left a significant void. Under Maresca, Chelsea had developed a clear identity and structure, and key players like Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez have publicly questioned the decision.

Eghbali admitted the managerial switch has been disruptive, saying it "had a bit of a negative impact in the season, when you’re changing systems and personnel." The club moved swiftly to appoint Liam Rosenior as his successor, and while Eghbali expressed belief in Rosenior's attributes, he emphasized the ultimate pressure for results at Stamford Bridge.

The fallout continues as Chelsea navigates a challenging season, fighting to regain the stability and success they found under Maresca's tenure.
