German tennis great Boris Becker has criticized Alexander Zverev for his lack of competitive spirit in his matches against world number one Jannik Sinner. "I'd like to see a little more fighting spirit, a little more aggression.

German tennis icon Boris Becker has weighed in on Alexander Zverev's recent struggles against world number one Jannik Sinner, calling for a sharper competitive edge from the German star. Speaking on the "Becker Petkovic" podcast alongside former pro Andrea Petkovic, Becker didn't hold back.

"I'd like to see a little more fighting spirit, a little more aggression," Becker said. "Everyone, including Zverev, seems to concede defeat to Sinner relatively early on. The exception is (Carlos) Alcaraz. The guys go into the match holding back, almost scared."

The criticism comes after Zverev's decisive 6-1, 6-2 loss to Sinner in the Madrid Masters final on Sunday—his ninth straight defeat to the Italian. Becker noted the match was effectively over within the first five games. "You didn't get the impression that Zverev had any hope left in him that he could turn things around," he added.

Despite the tough assessment, Becker acknowledged Zverev's strong overall season. "I think Zverev is having his most consistent year yet," he said. "I thought Zverev was a match for anyone on clay, but right now it doesn't look that way. Something is going on with him that's preventing him from reaching his full potential in a semi-final or final."

Looking ahead to the French Open later this month—the next Grand Slam on the calendar—Becker believes Zverev remains a serious contender. With Carlos Alcaraz sidelined due to injury, the odds at Roland Garros have shifted dramatically. "Suddenly, more players have a realistic chance of at least reaching the final or even winning it," Becker explained. "And, in my view, Zverev is one of them."

For tennis fans and players alike, this is a season of high stakes and shifting momentum—perfect inspiration for gearing up with the right apparel to match your own competitive spirit on the court.
