Bristol winger Gabriel Ibitoye will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury that will keep him out for three to four months.

The Bristol Bears have suffered another significant setback in their quest for the Premiership play-offs, as star winger Gabriel Ibitoye has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a torn hamstring. The explosive back went down early in the second half of last weekend's defeat to Saracens, and scans have confirmed the worst: he faces three to four months on the sidelines.

This latest blow adds to an already mounting injury crisis at Ashton Gate. Over the past five weeks alone, the Bears have lost hooker Gabriel Oghre, back row Benjamin Grondona, lock Pedro Rubiolo, and number eight Viliame Mata to long-term issues. The team's depth is being tested like never before.

"He got caught in a tackle which ruptured his hamstring, so Gabs is gone for the season now—he'll have surgery," director of rugby Pat Lam told BBC Radio Bristol. "He's going to be back in three, four months, so he'll be back for the start of next season."

For Ibitoye, this is a cruel repeat of misfortune. The dynamic winger had already missed the first four months of the campaign after suffering a leg injury in Bristol's opening Premiership game. Now, just as he was finding his rhythm, his season is over once again.

At their most depleted point over the winter, the Bears barely had enough backs available to run a full training session. Academy players have been thrust into the spotlight, and the club is now operating below the threshold for English-qualified players—an average of 15 per game—forcing Lam to carefully balance squad selections with that requirement in mind.

But there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Flanker Steven Luatua is nearing a return from a hamstring issue that has kept him out for the past month, while fly-half AJ MacGinty is also closing in on his comeback after being sidelined since September with an Achilles injury. "Potentially available for the last two rounds [of Premiership games]," Lam confirmed.

With just three rounds remaining, the Bears find themselves in a precarious position. Last weekend's defeat to Saracens left them fifth in the table, five points adrift of fourth-placed Exeter. To make matters worse, Saracens closed the gap to just two points behind Bristol, keeping the race for the play-offs wide open.

The road ahead doesn't get any easier. Bristol now face back-to-back clashes with league leaders Northampton and second-placed Bath—a daunting challenge for a squad already stretched to its limits. For the Bears, it's a test of resilience, depth, and sheer determination.
