NFL.com believes the Chicago Bears need to address one defensive position early in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The 2026 NFL Draft is just around the corner, and the Chicago Bears are poised to make a significant impact with a wealth of draft capital at their disposal. After an offseason of notable roster turnover, all eyes are on how GM Ryan Poles will utilize his picks, including four within the top 89 selections.

The Bears bid farewell to several key contributors, including the surprising retirement of center Drew Dalman and the departures of playmakers like receiver DJ Moore and defensive stalwarts Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker, and Tremaine Edmunds. While new additions like safety Coby Bryant and linebacker Devin Bush help fill the gaps, one critical need remains glaring on the defensive depth chart.

According to NFL.com's Gennaro Filice, the Bears' primary draft mission should be "safety first." The team lost its top four players at the position in free agency, and despite the high-profile signing of Bryant from the Super Bowl champion Seahawks, the spot opposite him represents a major question mark. With the 25th overall pick, Chicago finds itself in a prime position to target a top-tier safety prospect like Dillon Thieneman or Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, who could step in and start immediately.

While fostering Caleb Williams's development and bolstering the pass rush are important, securing the back end of the defense is the most pressing need. A dynamic, ball-hawking safety can transform a secondary, providing the leadership and playmaking ability the Bears desperately need to elevate Dennis Allen's defensive unit. As the draft approaches, addressing this position early could be the key move that solidifies the Bears' defense for the future.
