Warwickshire Bears sign Pakistan off-spinner Usman Tariq on a deal to cover this season's T20 Blast campaign.

Warwickshire Bears have made a major statement of intent ahead of the T20 Blast by securing the signing of Pakistan's rising spin sensation, Usman Tariq. The 30-year-old off-spinner has been turning heads across the global T20 circuit, and the Bears have moved quickly to bring his "high-impact" skills to Edgbaston for the upcoming campaign.

Tariq's journey to the Bears is a story of rapid rise. After making his international T20 debut for Pakistan in November 2025 against South Africa, he immediately announced himself on the world stage by taking a hat-trick in just his second match, against Zimbabwe. Since then, he has been a consistent wicket-taker, claiming 18 wickets in nine international T20s at an impressive economy rate of just 6.66 runs per over.

His domestic T20 record is equally eye-catching. With 89 wickets in 60 T20 matches, Tariq has proven himself a genuine match-winner. His success in the Pakistan Super League and Caribbean Premier League in 2025 has made him one of the most sought-after spinners in the shortest format, despite having played only two first-class games. The Bears, who have dropped the Birmingham name from their T20 side, revealed they "fought off competition from around the world" to land his signature.

"Usman is exactly the type of high-impact player we want to bring into Warwickshire, so we're delighted to get this deal completed," said Bears performance director James Thomas. "His skillset and tactical awareness make him a genuine threat in modern white-ball cricket, but it's his hunger to compete and continually improve that really stands out."

Tariq's unique bowling style has also attracted attention. His slingy, low-armed action has been reported twice by on-field umpires during the Pakistan Super League, in 2024 and again in 2025, adding an element of intrigue to his game. But there's no denying his effectiveness, and Bears fans will be eager to see him in action.

The Bears begin their T20 Blast campaign against Gloucestershire in Bristol on Friday, 22 May, before playing their first home game against Somerset two days later. With Tariq also set to feature for Birmingham Phoenix in this year's Hundred at Edgbaston, the spinner will be a familiar face for local cricket fans throughout the summer. Whether you're watching from the stands or gearing up with your Bears kit, this signing promises plenty of excitement ahead.
