Could Chicago land this free agent?

The Chicago Bears may have just received a crucial update in their pursuit of a veteran edge rusher, and it's a name that brings serious credentials: eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro Cameron Jordan, who has spent 15 seasons terrorizing quarterbacks in the NFL.

While Jordan isn't the dominant force he once was, he remains a more than capable professional who could step in and make an immediate impact for a Bears team eyeing a Super Bowl run. The question is whether Chicago can actually land him—and the latest reports suggest it might be an uphill battle.

ESPN's Mina Kimes recently weighed in, predicting that Jordan will likely re-sign with the New Orleans Saints, the only team he's ever played for. "Also, Cam Jordan, who I feel like will re-sign in New Orleans … was actually pretty good last year," Kimes noted.

Adding to the uncertainty, Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen addressed the situation on Monday, expressing confidence in the team's current edge rusher depth. "I don't know that there's been a ton of discussion about [signing him]. We feel pretty good about where we're at and what we have," Allen told reporters, via Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times. However, he left the door slightly ajar, adding, "Yet you never know what opportunities might present themselves down the road."

For Bears fans hoping to see a legendary pass rusher in navy and orange, this update suggests the front office is taking a measured approach. But in the NFL, things can change quickly—and a player of Jordan's caliber is always worth watching.
