The Boston College women's lacrosse team saw their championship dreams come to an end this past weekend, falling to Stony Brook in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament. The Eagles entered the postseason with their sights set on a ninth consecutive Final Four appearance, but despite a promising start, their run was cut short on the road.

Friday's first-round matchup against Yale was a masterclass in defensive dominance. Goaltender Shea Dolce was a wall between the pipes, allowing just four goals while making nine saves. Even with the Eagles committing more turnovers and facing an equal number of shots on goal, their control at the draw and efficiency on free-position opportunities proved decisive. Kylee Colbert was the star of the show, netting six goals—outscoring the entire Yale team by herself. A five-goal burst in the second quarter put BC firmly in control, and two late scores from Colbert sealed the commanding 10-4 victory.

Sunday's contest against host Stony Brook, however, was a different beast. The Eagles struggled to find their rhythm early, hampered by uncharacteristic turnovers and a relentless Sea Wolves defense. Stony Brook built a commanding 7-1 lead in the second quarter, and despite BC cutting the deficit to 7-3 by halftime, the hosts quickly pushed it back to 9-3 early in the third.

Then came the fight BC fans have come to expect. The Eagles responded with four unanswered goals over five possessions—two from free-position shots and two more from the ever-reliable Colbert in open play. The turnovers subsided, the defense tightened, and suddenly BC was within striking distance, trailing by just two as the fourth quarter began.

Stony Brook answered with a surge of physicality, and the game became a back-and-forth battle. The Eagles' turnover issues resurfaced, and the Sea Wolves capitalized, scoring their 10th goal early in the final period. Both teams traded possessions over the next several minutes, but BC couldn't find the equalizer. Dolce made key saves to keep the door open, but Stony Brook's defense held firm, ending the Eagles' season and their quest for another Final Four.
