The regular season is flying by, and for Baylor Softball, every game counts now more than ever. As the Big 12 schedule winds down, the Bears are gearing up for a critical road test that could define their postseason momentum.
This Thursday, Baylor heads to Lubbock for a tough series against No. 2 Texas Tech—a team that's been nearly unbeatable on their home turf. The Red Raiders are riding a six-game winning streak and have dropped just one game at home all season. It's the kind of challenge that separates contenders from pretenders.
The Bears are looking to shake off a rough weekend in Waco, where they were swept by No. 14 Oklahoma State. That series marked their fourth conference series loss of the season, leaving them at 9-12 in Big 12 play and sitting in sixth place in the standings. But head coach Glenn Moore sees more than just numbers on a scoreboard.
"Throughout the year, we haven't become a solid team that plays every aspect of the game well, consistently," Moore said. "But they've had to battle through that, and they've learned to play the game and stayed pretty consistent."
Moore pointed to the leadership of Amber and Brooklyn as key factors in keeping the team grounded, especially with Kaci sidelined by injury for most of the year after a redshirt season. "They've shown great leadership with this team, and it'll pay off. They're not going to benefit from it as much, but they'll be able to look back and know the work done here is worth it because their investment is going to pay dividends as this team grows."
For a program that's been a consistent contender, this season has been about building resilience. With the postseason looming, the Bears have a chance to prove that growth isn't always measured in wins—but in the grit they bring to every pitch, every at-bat, and every play.
