Bayern Munich's legendary goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has officially put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the Allianz Arena until 2027. The 40-year-old veteran, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, will now embark on his 16th season with the Bavarian giants.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Neuer's resume is nothing short of spectacular. He finished third in the 2014 Ballon d'Or voting—behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi—marking the most recent occasion a goalkeeper cracked the top three. That same year, he was a key figure in Germany's World Cup triumph, earning 124 caps before retiring from international duty in 2024.
Since joining Bayern from his boyhood club Schalke in 2011, Neuer has been a pillar of the team's success. He's won the Bundesliga a record 13 times—tying longtime teammate Thomas Müller for the most all-time—and has lifted the German Cup six times (five with Bayern, one with Schalke). On the European stage, he's clinched two Champions League titles, most recently earning UEFA's Man of the Match award for his stellar performance in the quarterfinal first-leg victory over Real Madrid this season.
Interestingly, German tabloid Bild reports that Neuer will see a reduced workload during the 2026-27 season, allowing for a smooth transition to backup goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.
