Thiago Alcântara. A name that brings back beautiful memories.
Quite possibly the biggest “what if” in football. A player who could’ve gone down as the best central midfielder to have ever touched a football if not for an injury-riddled career.
Every Bayern Munich fan who has watched him play for the club knows about his ability and his contributions for that historic sextuple-winning 2019/20 season. The footballing legend was interviewed by Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau recently (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) and only had compliments for the team. When asked about the team, Thiago responded, “Bayern are having a spectacular season. I think they made the right call by signing Luis Díaz. I know him from Liverpool and he’s a fantastic player and a fantastic person.” And ain’t that the truth.
Díaz has been a revelation for Bayern thus far. Having registered 24 goals and 20 assists (an insane double double) already across all competitions for Bayern this season, Díaz has cemented himself as one of the world’s best left wingers.
Thiago then continued the barrage of praise and lauded coach Vincent Kompany: “And of course, Vinny [Kompany] is also doing a great job as a coach. The group is fantastic—they have a very good mix of experienced and young players. Bayern are a joy to watch.” Kompany has really brought the joy back to Bayern fans. He’s made this team a delight to watch and has sharpened this weapon of a team to take on the very best. Having already secured the Bundesliga title, the team is now all set to put up a fantastic fight for a treble.
Finally, Thiago was asked which player from the current team he would have most liked to play with, to which he responded emphatically, “With everyone, really. Like I said: It’s wonderful to watch this team.”
Kompany would love to have prime Thiago on his team right now.
