After the heartbreak of their Champions League exit, Bayern Munich faced the ultimate test of character—and they passed, albeit narrowly. The Bavarians secured a gritty 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Wolfsburg, a result that kept their Bundesliga campaign on track but left fans and pundits with plenty to discuss.

Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, didn’t mince words about the emotional toll of the week. "We knew it wouldn’t be easy," he admitted. "Wednesday was a very bitter evening for us—and then we come here to find Wolfsburg fighting for survival. In the end, we’re really proud to have won, because it wasn’t an easy situation to start from."

The first half told the story of a team still reeling from midweek disappointment. Bayern struggled to find their rhythm, losing possession too often and failing to establish their usual dominance. Wolfsburg, desperate for points, pressed aggressively and switched play quickly, forcing the visitors onto the back foot. "We couldn’t find our rhythm, lacked dominance, and kept losing possession—including too many challenges," Freund noted. "That was uncharacteristic for us, not a good first half."

Credit where it’s due: Jonas Urbig and the defensive unit held firm, keeping a clean sheet that proved crucial. The second half saw a more composed Bayern side, one that finally looked like the team we’ve come to expect. "We kept a clean sheet and played a very good second half," Freund added. "So we’re very happy."

With just the final matchday of the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal final remaining, Bayern now face a sprint to the finish. This win, while far from perfect, showed resilience—a quality that will be essential as they chase silverware on two fronts. For fans, it’s a reminder that even champions have off days, but true champions find a way to win.
