Bayern Munich picked up a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal by outlasting a strong performance from the home side and its stellar goalkeeper, Mark Flekken.
Ultimately, the Bavarians were just the better team and pleased their coach by weathering the storm in the second half as desperation grew for Bayer Leverkusen.
“We played very well in the first half – high intensity, we didn’t allow them anything. Leverkusen came into the game better in the second half. They made us defend deeper, but we handled that well. We’re enjoying this time because it’s about titles and we’re still in the mix for everything,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Despite the Bundesliga title already clinched, there is a massive Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon, so Kompany’s squad will not be able to just cruise the rest of the way. At this point, vacations are not being planned, it is all business for the Bavarians for the next six weeks.
