The transfer window is heating up, and one of the biggest sagas of the summer is hitting a major snag. Bayern Munich have reportedly hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Newcastle United's dynamic winger, Anthony Gordon, as the German giants balk at the Magpies' hefty price tag.

According to sources, Newcastle have slapped a staggering €92 million (£80m) valuation on the 25-year-old, who is under contract at St. James' Park until 2030. For Bayern manager Vincent Kompany, Gordon is a top priority—a player he believes can inject fresh energy into his attacking lineup. But the Bundesliga champions are finding it hard to justify such a massive outlay.

Here's where it gets complicated: Newcastle's hands are partly tied by a 15% sell-on clause owed to Everton, Gordon's former club. This means the Magpies need to hold firm on their asking price to secure a meaningful profit for reinvestment. For Eddie Howe's side, there's little room to budge.

On the pitch, Gordon's numbers speak for themselves—17 goals and five assists this season, paired with a relentless work rate that fits Kompany's high-pressing style like a glove. The England international is reportedly open to a new challenge, but Newcastle are in a position of strength, and they know it.

Bayern, however, are playing a cautious game. After splashing big on stars like Harry Kane and Luis Díaz in recent windows, the club's hierarchy is wary of another nine-figure deal. President Uli Hoeneß has doubled down on a strict 'no-debt' transfer policy, and factoring in wages and signing bonuses makes this an even tougher pill to swallow.

Unless Bayern can bridge the valuation gap, they risk losing Gordon to Premier League rivals—or seeing him stay put on Tyneside for another season. For now, the ball is in Bayern's court, but the clock is ticking.
