The North Decatur Chargers turned a tight contest into a decisive victory, using a powerful five-run third inning to break a 1-1 tie and cruise to an 11-1 win over conference rival Morristown. After the Yellow Jackets knotted the score in the top of the third, the Chargers' offense exploded, adding two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to secure the mercy-rule win.
Matthew Fields was dominant on the mound for North Decatur, pitching a complete-game five-inning victory. He allowed just one unearned run on a single hit, walking five and striking out an impressive nine batters. The Chargers' bats provided ample support, racking up 11 hits. Tyler Dean led the charge with a spectacular day, hitting for the cycle with a single, triple, and home run while driving in four runs. Grayson Downey added a double, a triple, and two RBIs, while Eli Trenkamp and Kipton Ruf also contributed key extra-base hits.
In other local baseball action, South Decatur fell to Knightstown 12-2. The Cougars held an early 2-0 lead, but a nine-run fourth inning by Knightstown proved insurmountable. Cayden Drake drove in both of South's runs, but the pitching staff couldn't contain the Panthers' late rally.
Greensburg had a dramatic week, splitting two games. After an 8-1 loss to Madison, the Pirates staged an incredible comeback against Lawrenceburg. Trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Greensburg rallied to tie the game on a clutch triple by Luke Hoeing, who then scored the winning run on an error for a thrilling 7-6 walk-off victory.
Finally, the Lions continued to search for their first win, falling 11-1 to Shenandoah and suffering a narrow 11-10 loss to South Dearborn. Despite the tough results, players like Josh Campbell, who had two hits against Shenandoah, showed flashes of offensive potential for the squad.
