The SEC Outdoor Championships kicked off with a bang in Auburn, Alabama, as the Missouri Tigers stormed through the record books on Thursday, delivering performances that will be talked about for seasons to come.
Headlining the day was Valentina Barrios Bornacelli, who captured the women's javelin championship with a stunning first-place throw of 58.31 meters. That mark wasn't just a win—it was a new season best by more than two meters, showcasing the kind of form that champions are made of.
She wasn't alone in the spotlight. Skylar Ciccolini added a fourth-place finish with a solid 55.54 meters, while Morgan Cannon cracked the top 10 with a season-best 48.18 meters. The depth kept coming: Val Galligan placed 12th, Adrienne Russell set a new personal best at 46.79 meters for 13th, and Marysa Flieg took 14th. Nora Hark and Lexi Craig also celebrated new personal bests, finishing 15th and 16th with throws of 45.58 and 45.44 meters, respectively. Kiyah Blast rounded out the Tigers in 21st.
Over in the men's hammer throw, Sam Innes delivered a performance for the ages. His silver-medal effort of 71.65 meters wasn't just a personal best—it vaulted him to No. 2 all-time in Mizzou history in the event. Garik Pozecki followed in 11th with his own personal best of 63.99 meters, good for No. 6 on the program's all-time list. Clayton Kamp finished 15th with a toss of 55.42 meters.
The women's hammer throw saw Petra Gombas take eighth with a mark of 61.43 meters, ranking seventh all-time in program history. Kaitlyn Morningstar set a new personal best at 54.62 meters for 17th, while Reagan Kimrey rounded things out in 19th with a throw of 51.83 meters.
In the heptathlon, Brianna Utecht put together a gritty opening day. She started with a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.08 seconds), then jumped to sixth in the high jump with a season-best 1.65 meters. A fifth-place showing in the shot put (12.70 meters) was followed by an 11th-place finish in the 200 meters (25.72 seconds). Charlotte Cullen also turned heads, taking 16th in her event with a new personal best of 2:—a sign that this Tigers squad is just getting started.
