In a devastating update, SPORT reports that FC Barcelona prospect Patricio Pacifico has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which will keep him out for between eight and nine months.

The Uruguayan defender, who arrived in January to strengthen Barça Atletic, was injured during their match against UE Olot yesterday, forcing him to leave the pitch early.

The 20-year-old starlet showed clear signs of pain as he departed, raising immediate concern among the coaching staff. In fact, he required assistance from two staff members to leave the field, as he was unable to move on his own.

Pacífico underwent medical tests at the Ciutat Esportiva today, which determined that he has suffered an ACL rupture. This injury will require a long period of recovery.

Although the exact duration has not yet been officially confirmed, it is expected to be a lengthy absence of around 8-9 months.

Pacifico was one of the winter signings for Barça Atletic, alongside Joaquin Delgado and Hamza Abdelkarim, and had quickly established himself within the squad under Juliano Belletti.

It should also be noted that he had trained on a few occasions with the first team under Hansi Flick and had been showing strong performances.

The 20-year-old was signed on loan from Defensor Sporting, although Barcelona held a purchase option on the player and had been working towards activating it due to satisfaction with his performances.

This injury, which effectively ends his season, represents a significant setback and may alter the club’s immediate plans.
