The winds of change continue to sweep through Stamford Bridge, and this time, a Barcelona legend could be at the helm. Xavi Hernandez, one of football's most celebrated midfield minds, has reportedly emerged as a surprise contender to take over as Chelsea manager.
After parting ways with Enzo Maresca at the start of the year, the Blues appointed Liam Rosenior as interim boss. But Rosenior's tenure proved short-lived—lasting less than four months before he too was shown the door. Now, Chelsea's search for a long-term leader intensifies.
According to The Independent, the club is eyeing Xavi as a coach who can "instil an identity" that runs from the first team down through the youth academy—a philosophy that echoes his legendary playing career at Barcelona. The 44-year-old has been out of work since leaving the Camp Nou, but he's made no secret of his ambitions.
"I'd love to work in the Premier League because I love the passion there," Xavi told The Athletic last year. "In Spain, it's too much about the result." He's also expressed a desire for a "project" in his next role—something Chelsea's evolving squad could certainly offer.
Xavi isn't the only name in the frame. Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso, Nice's Francesco Farioli, and former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas are also reportedly under consideration, alongside Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola. But for fans dreaming of tiki-taka at the Bridge, Xavi's potential appointment would be a statement of intent.
Whether he's the right fit for this new chapter remains to be seen—but one thing's for sure: Chelsea's managerial carousel shows no signs of slowing down.
