FC Barcelona are back at Spotify Camp Nou, but their homecoming might be shorter than fans hoped. The club is already in talks with the Barcelona City Council to rent the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys for a significant chunk of the 2027-28 season.
After a long exile at Montjuïc, Barça finally returned to their iconic home in November, but the stadium is still very much a work in progress. Currently, only about 60,000 fans can squeeze in—the first two tiers are complete, but the third tier is under construction, aiming for a final capacity of 105,000. Next season, the plan is to hit that mark. But the year after? That's when the big roof job comes in, forcing another temporary move.
According to Cadena SER, negotiations are underway for Barcelona to use the Olympic stadium for most of the 2027-28 campaign. The smart scheduling plan? Load up on away games at the tail end of 2026-27 and the start of the following season to minimize disruption. The roof work would then roll on through the season, with Barça potentially needing Montjuïc until January or February—covering the bulk of their fixtures.
This roof is the final major puzzle piece in the massive Camp Nou renovation. But here's the catch: Barcelona's track record with deadlines is shaky at best. The return to Camp Nou was delayed by a full year, and the entire project—originally slated for three years—now looks like it'll stretch closer to 4.5. So while the club is aiming for a smooth transition, fans know to keep their Montjuïc scarves handy.
