Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana claims 5-40 to help the Tigers beat Pakistan in a Test at home for the first time.

Bangladesh created history in Mirpur, securing their first-ever home Test victory over Pakistan with a commanding 104-run win at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. The Tigers' triumph marks a milestone moment for cricket in Bangladesh and continues their recent dominance over Pakistan in the longest format.

Set a challenging target of 268 runs to win, Pakistan's batting lineup crumbled dramatically. From a relatively stable position at 68-2, the visitors lost seven wickets in a thrilling final session, ultimately being bowled out for just 163. The collapse was orchestrated by Bangladesh's pace sensation Nahid Rana, who claimed his maiden five-wicket haul with figures of 5-40.

This victory extends Bangladesh's impressive run against Pakistan, making it three consecutive Test wins over their opponents following their historic series win on Pakistani soil in 2024. The result puts the Tigers 1-0 up in the two-match series.

The foundation for Bangladesh's success was laid by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored a magnificent century in the first innings. Shanto's 101, combined with Mominul Haque's 91, powered the hosts to 413 in their first innings. Pakistan's response was led by 21-year-old debutant Azan Awais, who marked his Test debut with a century, helping the tourists reach 386 and trail by just 27 runs.

After rain disrupted play on days three and four, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 240-9 before lunch on the final day. Once again, it was Shanto (87) and Mominul (56) who provided the fireworks, setting up an enticing chase for Pakistan.

Despite a defiant 66 from Abdullah Fazal, Pakistan's batting order lacked the necessary support. Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam chipped in with two wickets each to complement Rana's heroics, ensuring Bangladesh's bowlers delivered when it mattered most.

"Very happy," said an elated Shanto after the match. "Proud of all the guys the way we played. We declared because we have a quality bowling attack and in these conditions Rana, Taskin, Taijul bowled really well and that's what I want from them."

The second and final Test of the series is set to begin in Sylhet on Saturday, with Bangladesh looking to seal a memorable series sweep.
