In a dominant performance on Thursday, the Hayfield Vikings softball team overpowered the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms with a 10-5 victory on their home field. The win showcased a stellar outing from pitcher Ella Bamlet, who was virtually untouchable on the mound.
Bamlet turned in a complete-game masterpiece, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while allowing zero earned runs. Her command and composure kept the Awesome Blossoms' offense at bay, even as they managed eight hits. The performance was a bright spot for the Vikings, who improved to 6-8 on the season.
At the plate, Hayfield's lineup was firing on all cylinders. Kenna Rutledge set the table from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk. Bamlet also helped her own cause, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Jenna Christopherson added a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs and a run, while Adrian Dahle and Hallie Masching each contributed hits and runs to the balanced attack.
For Blooming Prairie (3-11 overall), Bella Schiller provided the offensive highlight with a home run and two RBIs. Madelyn Harvey was a bright spot, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, but the team couldn't overcome Hayfield's early momentum. Aubree Johnson took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 runs (five earned) over 4 1/3 innings.
With the win, the Vikings continue to build momentum in the second half of the season, showcasing a potent combination of pitching and hitting that bodes well for their postseason aspirations.
