Baltimore Orioles fans, get ready to celebrate—Adley Rutschman is officially back and better than ever. The switch-hitting catcher, taken first overall in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Oregon State, reminded everyone why he's one of the game's brightest stars by going yard against the New York Yankees in a recent showdown.

Rutschman burst onto the scene in 2022, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting and 12th in American League MVP voting. That season, he appeared in 113 games, posted a 131 OPS+, and established himself as one of the best defensive catchers in the league. He followed it up in 2023 with his first All-Star appearance, a Silver Slugger Award, and a top-10 MVP finish, hitting .277 with 20 home runs and 80 RBIs.

By 2024, Rutschman seemed destined for superstardom, earning another All-Star nod. But the second half of that season told a different story. After a five-hit game against the Houston Astros on June 21, 2024, he hit just .192 the rest of the way, with a .574 OPS across 317 plate appearances. The struggles carried into 2025, when injuries limited him to 90 games and a career-worst .673 OPS. Concern grew in Baltimore that something had changed for the two-time All-Star.

Now, through 28 games this season, Rutschman has silenced all doubters. He's posting a career-best .893 OPS—good for an elite 151 OPS+—along with a .291 batting average and a .553 slugging percentage, both career highs. His previous best slugging mark was .445 in his rookie season. With 57 total bases already, Rutschman isn't just the best-hitting catcher in baseball right now; he's one of the most dangerous offensive players in the game. For Orioles fans and baseball enthusiasts alike, this is the Adley they've been waiting for.
