The Baltimore Ravens are making moves under center, signing veteran quarterback Skylar Thompson and expanding their quarterback room to five players. It's a clear signal that depth and competition are on the team's mind as they gear up for the second half of offseason workouts.
Thompson, a seventh-round pick out of Kansas State in 2022, didn't see any game action in the 2025 season. A hamstring injury landed him on injured reserve with the Pittsburgh Steelers back in early September, and he later signed a reserve/future contract with them in January. But despite that lost year, Thompson brings valuable NFL experience to Baltimore.
In his career, the 26-year-old has appeared in 10 games—all with the Miami Dolphins—completing 81 of 138 passes (58.7%) for 721 yards. He's thrown one touchdown against three interceptions, averaging 5.2 yards per completion. Those aren't eye-popping numbers, but for a team looking to build depth behind a star, it's a solid foundation.
At the top of the depth chart, the Ravens are set with Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. But adding Thompson gives them a proven (if limited) option to compete with other developmental quarterbacks like Pavia and Fagnano. It's all about creating a competitive environment as the team evaluates its roster ahead of training camp.
For Thompson, this is a fresh start after an injury setback. A full offseason to get healthy and prove himself could be just what he needs to carve out a role in a crowded quarterback room and keep his NFL career moving forward.
