Like a number of Premiership clubs, we are facing a pretty big rebuild over the close season. Several loan players will return to their parent clubs, while some of our standout performers will inevitably attract interest elsewhere.

As the dust settles on another Premiership season, it's clear that a significant rebuild is on the horizon for our club—much like many others in the league. With several loan players heading back to their parent clubs and our standout performers likely drawing attention from elsewhere, the summer transfer window promises to be a busy one. Add to that a handful of players nearing the end of their contracts who are unlikely to stay, and the need for strategic reinforcements becomes undeniable.

But if Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Hibernian taught us anything, it's that finding a commanding centre-half should be at the very top of John McGlynn's shopping list. The match exposed a recurring vulnerability: our inability to defend set-pieces. This weakness has haunted us since our League 1 days, and it was painfully evident again as we conceded a cheap goal from a corner almost immediately, derailing our European aspirations before we could even find our footing.

What we need is a proper old-school leader to partner Liam Henderson—a defender who can organize the backline, bring the aggression needed to handle set-piece threats, and instill the confidence that has been missing. In today's fast-paced game, such players are a rare breed, but they are exactly what we require to turn this glaring flaw into a strength.

Given the meticulous detail McGlynn brings to his work, it's safe to assume he's already exploring solutions. Let's just hope that finding that defensive anchor is near the top of his priority list this summer—because a solid foundation at the back could be the key to unlocking a much more successful season ahead.
