The Philadelphia Flyers' improbable playoff run has officially come to an end, but the story of this team is far from over. After a thrilling 4-2 series victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, the Flyers faced the formidable Carolina Hurricanes in Round 2—and the Hurricanes proved too strong, sweeping the series 4-0. But while the final score may sting, the real story of the 2025-26 Flyers is how they got there, not how they left.

Expectations were low entering the playoffs. Few gave the Flyers a chance against the Penguins, and even fewer believed they could hang with the Hurricanes. Yet, time and again, this team defied the odds and captured the hearts of a city that never stopped believing. That unwavering support was on full display Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

As the final seconds ticked away after Jackson Blake's overtime winner, the Flyers skated over to console goaltender Dan Vladar. But instead of silence, the arena erupted. What started as cheers quickly turned into a thunderous "Let's Go Flyers" chant that echoed through the building. From the sound of it, you'd think the team had just won the game. In a moment of pure heartbreak, the city had their team's back.

"I think it's amazing. I really want to thank the fans for that," said Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet, visibly moved by the display. "That was awesome for them to cheer us and the 'Let's Go Flyers' stuff—you know, that puts us on the map a little bit." Tocchet mentioned he later discussed the moment with Keith Jones, the team's President of Hockey Operations.

Goalie Dan Vladar, who was at the center of the emotional scene, echoed those sentiments. "Goose bumps," he said. "They've been having our back since the beginning of the season. I'm sorry we weren't able to deliver more hockey for them." Vladar added that crowds like that are exactly why he wanted to come to Philadelphia. "It's another big reason why I want to be here."

South Philly kept rocking through the end. And while the Flyers may have fallen short, they've put this city back on the hockey map—and the fans made sure everyone knew it.
