Manchester United's pursuit of Real Madrid midfield powerhouse Aurelien Tchouameni is heating up fast, with fresh reports from Spain suggesting a blockbuster move is increasingly likely.

The Red Devils are gearing up for a pivotal summer transfer window—one that could define the INEOS era—as they look to completely overhaul their midfield engine room. With Casemiro set to depart at season's end after both parties agreed not to trigger his contract extension, United are in desperate need of a long-term solution.

Manuel Ugarte, signed from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.7 million in 2024, has failed to impress and is expected to be sold if a suitable offer arrives. Galatasaray showed interest in January, and Serie A clubs are now circling the 25-year-old Uruguayan.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes has been restored to his natural No. 10 role, leaving young Kobbie Mainoo as the only midfielder with a guaranteed long-term future at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old English starlet recently signed a five-year deal and capped off a memorable week by scoring the winner against Liverpool, securing Champions League qualification.

United are targeting at least two major midfield signings this summer, with a third possible if Ugarte departs. Their primary target is Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, though the asking price could set a British record for a midfielder. Other expensive options include Sandro Tonali (Newcastle), Carlos Baleba (Brighton), and Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), while Alex Scott (Bournemouth) and Joao Gomes (Wolves) represent more affordable alternatives.

Having struggled with foreign imports in recent years, United are prioritizing players with Premier League experience. But INEOS' scouting network remains active across Europe, ready to pounce if a Champions League-caliber talent like Tchouameni becomes available.
