The Augustana Vikings didn't just win the NSIC baseball tournament championship on Saturday—they made a statement. With a gritty 6-4 victory over Minnesota State, the team swept both the regular season and postseason titles, marking the third time in program history they've achieved this impressive double.

"I told our guys after we won the regular season, this is one of the most improbable championships I've been part of," said head coach Tim Huber. "But we're going to take it."

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the roster's youth. Over half the team consists of underclassmen, which meant plenty of growing pains along the way. But those early struggles built something special.

"These guys got some confidence," Huber explained. "We're a fairly young team outside of a couple seniors. A lot of these guys are freshmen from last year now playing as sophomores. They don't know what this is like yet. But once they got into the postseason, things started rolling."

That newfound confidence, combined with the program's winning tradition, set the stage for a memorable postseason run. Tournament MVP Kobe Eikmeier summed it up perfectly: "It's the culture. When I stepped on campus as a freshman last year, you could feel it. Every guy is hungry. We have 50 guys on the roster, and you can't tell who's going to start and who's riding the bench."

Augustana dominated the tournament, winning all four games and defeating Minnesota State—the same team that ended their season last year—twice by a combined three runs. Huber credits a renewed focus for the turnaround.

"Our focus has been way better," he said. "It's a word I've used so much our guys are sick of hearing it. But it's been huge for us—just finding a way to focus and grind it out. They've done a great job, and all the credit goes to them."

The Vikings now turn their attention to the Central Regional, where they'll face Northwest Missouri State on Thursday evening. With momentum on their side and a deep roster hungry for more, Augustana looks ready to keep writing its story.
