Auburn Tiger fans, get ready to cheer for one of your own north of the border! Former Auburn long snapper Reed Hughes has officially signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL), marking an exciting new chapter in his football journey.
Hughes isn't the only familiar face in Saskatchewan. He'll be joining fellow ex-Tiger punter Oscar Chapman on the Roughriders' roster, giving Auburn fans a double reason to follow the team's 2026 season.
Hughes spent six seasons on the Plains, arriving as a freshman in 2020 after a standout high school career at Conway High School in Arkansas—where he racked up an impressive 170 tackles and earned all-state honors. At Auburn, he became the full-time starting long snapper for the 2024 and 2025 seasons after splitting time with Jacob Quattlebaum in 2023. Over 37 career games, Hughes recorded five tackles and was a model of consistency, earning a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll five times. He also played a key role in the success of kicker Alex McPherson during his tenure.
Now, Hughes is trading the SEC for the CFL, a league known for its faster pace and wider field—a major adjustment for any player. But he's joining a powerhouse: the Roughriders won the 2025 Grey Cup with a stellar 12-6 record and are hungry to repeat as champions in 2026. CFL training camps open on May 10th, giving Hughes just weeks to prepare for his new challenge.
Whether you're a die-hard Auburn fan or just love a good underdog story, Hughes' journey from Arkansas high school star to SEC standout to CFL contender is one to watch. Grab your gear, and get ready to follow the Roughriders this season—because there's nothing like seeing a Tiger take flight in a new league.
