Auburn basketball's offseason roster movement continues, with guard Abdul Bashir becoming the latest Tiger to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The news, confirmed by multiple reports and announced by Bashir himself on social media, marks the fourth departure from the program this spring.
Bashir's lone season on the Plains was unfortunately defined by injury. Arriving with significant hype after leading all of junior college in scoring the previous year with 27.2 points per game, a persistent back issue limited him to just six appearances. His last action came in Auburn's late-November loss to the eventual national champion, Michigan.
This move underscores the challenging transition for the former JUCO star, whose prolific scoring ability never had a chance to translate to the SEC stage. His career stats from his two junior college seasons—highlighted by efficient three-point shooting and high-volume scoring—paint the picture of the dynamic player Auburn hoped to get.
For the Tigers, under the new leadership of head coach Steven Pearl, Bashir's exit represents another open scholarship as the team looks to rebuild its backcourt depth. For Bashir, the portal offers a fresh start and an opportunity to finally showcase his talents at the Division I level, provided he can return to full health.
