Auburn baseball closed its top-25 SEC series with the Oklahoma Sooners in a big way with a 14-4 run-rule win over the then-No. 13 Sooners. Auburn freshman Ethin Bingaman hit three home runs in the game, and the Tigers hit six long balls overall.
How did the series win affect No. 9 Auburn's place within the polls? The Tigers jumped one place in this week's USA TODAY Coaches Poll to No. 8 after claiming their fourth-straight SEC series win. The series loss drops Oklahoma one place to No. 14 ahead of this week's action.
Auburn is the fourth-highest-ranked team from the SEC in this week's poll, trailing only Texas (No. 4), Georgia (No. 5), and Texas A&M (No. 7). Mississippi State joins Auburn in the top 10 at No. 9, while Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Alabama, and Florida bring up the rear.
Auburn will have a chance to boost its position in next week's rankings when it travels to Texas A&M for a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. CT in College Station, Texas.
