Regardless of what happens in Thursday’s series finale at Washington, the Atlanta Braves will have still not lost a series this season.
Having won two of the first three games of the four-game road set, Atlanta is guaranteed at worst a split. But a win would mean a fifth straight series victory, a 6-1 road trip and pushing another division foe further below .500, closer to the Mets and Phillies (still astonishing, by the way).
To try and accomplish that, the Braves are turning to former first-round pick JR Ritchie, whose pick was acquired in the trade which sent Drew Waters to Kansas City. After a sensational start to the season in Triple-A, this will be quite a litmus test to see where Ritchie is at in his development against a surprisingly strong Nationals lineup.
