There's nothing quite like extra practice with mom to turn a good season into a legendary one. Brenna Fyffe, a senior on the Kenton Ridge High School softball team, just proved that in a big way.

Over a grueling four-game stretch in just four days, Fyffe was practically unstoppable. She recorded three multiple-home-run games, drove in 14 RBIs, and went an incredible 11-for-13 at the plate. That kind of performance earned her the Dayton Daily News Athlete of the Week honor for April 20-26, voted on by readers.

"I wouldn't have been able to get this without the team I have and the coaches and my family," Fyffe said. "I have such a good support system and my teammates always cheer me on."

The highlights came fast. She launched two home runs against Tecumseh, then repeated the feat two days later at North Union. In the first game of a doubleheader against defending Division I state champion Lebanon, she didn't record a single out. Then, against Centerville, she crushed two more homers.

So what's behind this hot streak? Fyffe credits a more relaxed mindset and extra reps with her mom after practice. "I've been feeling a lot more relaxed before and after every practice," she said. "My mom and I have been going and getting extra reps in."

As an Ohio University commit, Fyffe admits she used to feel pressure to prove herself. Now, she's letting the game come to her. "Once I committed, that's when I had put pressure on myself to prove for everybody that I was good," she said. "Now I just have kind of calmed down and relaxed to realize that I'm good no matter what."

Already a three-time all-state selection and first-team pick in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division, Fyffe recently became the program's all-time hits leader. Her performance against Centerville, she says, showed off her team's mental toughness.

Playing catcher gives her a unique edge. Watching sophomore pitcher Ivee Rastatter's spins up close helps her read pitches when she's at the plate. "She's such a good pitcher, and seeing her spin and knowing what she's throwing… just being able to read that while I'm up to bat helps me so much," Fyffe explained.

With that kind of preparation and support, it's no wonder Brenna Fyffe is making headlines—and making a strong case for being one of the most exciting players to watch this season.
