Atalanta are playing their cards early in the summer transfer market carousel, securing a major front-office upgrade before the competition can blink. With director Tony D’Amico expected to depart at season's end, the Bergamo club has reached an agreement in principle with former Juventus and Napoli executive Cristiano Giuntoli, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

This move is a statement of intent from La Dea, who aren't waiting around to see how the dominoes fall. Giuntoli, a seasoned veteran with a trophy-laden resume, brings a wealth of experience that could reshape the club's strategic direction. He was reportedly weighing options abroad and had drawn interest from Roma, where Frederic Massara is expected to leave, as well as Olympique Marseille in Ligue 1.

The ripple effects are already being felt. Giuntoli's arrival could influence the future of current coach Raffaele Palladino, with Thiago Motta emerging as a natural candidate for the bench—provided his demands aren't too steep. Meanwhile, D’Amico's next stop remains a mystery. AC Milan chased him last summer after the Fabio Paratici deal fell through, eventually settling for Igli Tare. But Tare's position could be shaky given the club's late-season struggles and internal discord in the front office.

Roma and Napoli are also circling D’Amico as a fallback option, with Verona’s Sean Sogliano in the mix as well, per Alfredo Pedullà. For Roma, the question is whether they'll seize this opportunity or continue chasing long-shot targets like Napoli's Giovanni Manna, who would require a fee to be pried from his contract.

Despite Giuntoli's unceremonious exit from Juventus, this is a bold and intriguing choice for both him and Atalanta. He could have waited for a bigger club, but the stability offered by La Dea—a club known for its shrewd operations and clear vision—might be exactly what he needs. As the summer carousel spins, all eyes will be on Bergamo to see how these moves reshape the Serie A landscape.
