The NBA rumor mill is buzzing after Masai Ujiri was officially introduced for a front office role with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Naturally, speculation has turned to how he'll fill out his executive team—and who might join him in Dallas.

One early rumor suggested Ujiri might try to lure Bobby Webster, the current Toronto Raptors general manager, to serve as his GM in Dallas. However, multiple sources quickly shot down that possibility for two key reasons. First, after running his own team in Toronto, Webster is unlikely to want to step back into a supporting role. Second—and perhaps more importantly—the Raptors simply won't let him go.

"He [Webster] is the captain of his own ship here," one source explained, making it clear that Toronto considers Webster a cornerstone of their front office future. While Ujiri's next moves in Dallas remain a hot topic, it seems Webster's loyalty—and value—to the Raptors will keep him firmly in place.
