The Arizona State softball team capped a stunning late-season run by knocking off top-seeded Texas Tech to win the Big 12 Conference tournament title.

The Arizona State Sun Devils have done the unthinkable. In what can only be described as a Cinderella story for the ages, ASU softball stormed through the Big 12 Tournament and knocked off the top-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders, 4-0, to claim the conference title on Saturday, May 9, in Oklahoma City.

For a team that needed late-season heroics just to sneak into the eight-team tournament, this championship run was nothing short of magical. "We were playing with house money," head coach Megan Bartlett told ESPN after the game, capturing the relaxed yet determined mindset that carried her squad to the promised land.

The Sun Devils (41-16) showed no fear against a Texas Tech team that was last season's national runner-up and entered the game with a staggering 52-6 record. The scoring explosion came in the second inning, when Tanya Windle launched a solo home run to break the ice. But the Sun Devils weren't done. Emily Schepp followed with a two-out, two-run blast, and Katie Chester capped the rally with another solo shot, giving ASU a commanding 4-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

Staff ace Kenzie Brown was simply untouchable in the circle. Fresh off a dominant performance against Arizona two days earlier, Brown delivered a two-hit shutout while racking up nine strikeouts against the stunned Red Raiders. It was the kind of pitching performance that championship dreams are made of.

The road to the title wasn't easy. The sixth-seeded Sun Devils had to claw past No. 3 Arizona and No. 2 Oklahoma State just to reach the championship game. Now, they'll wait to learn their NCAA Tournament fate when the selection show airs Sunday, May 10, at 4 p.m. MST on ESPN2. Regional play begins Friday, May 15, and if this team's recent run is any indication, they'll be bringing plenty of house money with them.
