The Houston Astros have made a series of roster moves, recalling outfield prospect Zach Cole while designating veteran Daniel Johnson for assignment. The club also reinstated Zach Dezenzo from the Injured List and optioned him to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Cole, 25, has been turning heads since the Astros selected him in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft. His breakout came last season following a key swing adjustment that unlocked his power potential.

The left-handed hitter started 2024 at Double-A Corpus Christi, where he posted impressive numbers: a .267 batting average with a .363 on-base percentage and an .868 OPS across 307 at-bats. He showcased his all-around game with 14 home runs, 19 doubles, six triples, and 15 stolen bases before earning a promotion to Triple-A.

Once with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, Cole elevated his game to another level. In just 15 games, he hit .353 with a .459 OBP and a staggering 1.204 OPS, crushing five homers and driving in 16 runs. That scorching stretch earned him his first call-up to the big leagues.

In his initial MLB stint, Cole held his own, batting .255 with a .327 OBP and an .880 OPS over 47 at-bats, including four home runs and two doubles. His strong late-season performance positioned him as a serious contender for an Opening Day roster spot in 2025.

However, a tough spring training sent him back to Triple-A to start the season. Then, just three days into the campaign, a hit-by-pitch resulted in a broken toe, sidelining him for a full month. Since returning to the Space Cowboys on April 23, Cole has gone 5-for-20 with a home run, a double, a triple, five walks, four runs scored, and three RBIs—showing he's ready to make an impact once again.
