Astros Prospect Report: May 8th

See how the prospects performed last night.

Another exciting night of Astros minor league baseball is in the books, and there's plenty to unpack from the diamond. From dominant pitching performances to lightning-shortened victories, here's how the prospects fared on May 8th.

Triple-A: Sugar Land Space Cowboys
The Space Cowboys saw a strong start from Ethan Pecko, who continues to impress in Triple-A. The right-hander tossed 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out five. With a sparkling 1.04 ERA this season, Pecko is proving to be a rising star to watch. Reliever Josh Hendrickson followed with 4.1 innings of work, surrendering two runs on four hits. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't find its rhythm until the ninth inning, when Nelson launched a solo home run. That was all the scoring Sugar Land could muster, falling 2-1 in a tight contest.

Double-A: Corpus Christi Hooks
The Hooks delivered a thrilling, back-and-forth battle that ended in dramatic fashion. Corpus Christi jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, powered by a Sullivan solo home run, an Encarnacion RBI single, and a Guillemette RBI single. Trevor Austin added a solo shot in the third, but starter Brandon McPherson struggled, allowing seven runs over 3.1 innings. The Hooks refused to quit, rallying in the fifth on a two-run homer by Austin and an RBI single from Lytle. They tied the game in the sixth on a daring steal of home by Holy, then took the lead in the seventh on a Lytle RBI double and a Garcia RBI single. A Whitaker RBI single in the eighth extended the lead, and reliever Ramsey David tossed a scoreless inning for the save. The game was called due to lightning, but the Hooks secured an 11-8 victory. Austin was the star, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two home runs, and three RBIs.

High-A: Asheville Tourists
It was a tough night for Asheville, as starter Smith struggled through just 1.2 innings, allowing nine runs (seven earned). Reliever Pena provided some stability with 3.2 innings, giving up two runs. The Tourists' offense showed fight, scoring two runs in the fourth on a Daudet RBI single and a Walker RBI groundout. They added two more in the fifth on a solo home run by Frey and an RBI double from Call. However, Rome answered with two runs of their own, and the deficit proved too much to overcome.

From Pecko's dominance on the mound to Austin's power display at the plate, the Astros' farm system continues to showcase depth and excitement. Whether you're tracking future stars or just love the game, these prospects are giving us plenty of reasons to pay attention.
