The Houston Astros' 2026 campaign has been hampered by a significant injury bug, with a staggering 13 players currently on the Injured List. The club provided a crucial update on the status of several key arms and position players as they navigate this challenging stretch.
Pitching depth is being tested, with new addition Cody Bolton (right mid-back inflammation) joining the IL and not currently throwing. He's part of a group of sidelined hurlers, including Hunter Brown, Tatsuya Imai, and Cristian Javier, who are all rehabbing shoulder and arm issues in Houston but are not yet cleared to throw.
There is positive momentum on the mound, however. Star closer Josh Hader, dealing with left biceps tendinitis, took a major step forward by throwing a 19-pitch live batting practice session. Meanwhile, Nate Pearson (right elbow surgery) built up his workload with a 2.0-inning outing in extended spring training, and Bennett Sousa looked sharp in a minor league rehab appearance, firing a scoreless inning for Double-A Corpus Christi.
The news is also encouraging for the lineup. Outfielder Zach Dezenzo (right elbow sprain) has progressed to a position-specific throwing program in Florida while maintaining his hitting routine. Fellow outfielders Jake Meyers (right oblique strain) and shortstop Jeremy Peña (right hamstring strain) continue their rehabilitation exercises in Houston, working toward a return to bolster the Astros' defense and offense.
