The Houston Astros have officially unveiled their Minor League Players of the Month for April, and the future looks bright with two standout prospects earning well-deserved recognition.

On the mound, right-handed pitcher Ryan McPherson delivered a stellar month for Double-A Corpus Christi. Signed as an undrafted free agent from Northern Illinois University in June 2025, McPherson posted a sharp 3.24 ERA across four April starts. His command was exceptional, striking out 24 batters while walking just three. So far this minor league season, he’s maintained a 2.95 ERA with 28 strikeouts and a solid 1.13 WHIP over five starts—numbers that suggest he’s quickly finding his groove in the Astros system.

At the plate, catcher/infielder Cole Schiavone made a powerful statement with High-A Asheville. Selected by Houston in the 11th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of James Madison, Schiavone crushed nine home runs in April alone, driving in 23 runs and posting an eye-popping 1.050 OPS over 20 games. He also showed patience and speed, drawing 22 walks and swiping seven bases. For the season, he’s batting .226 but his power numbers are undeniable—11 homers, 27 RBI, and a 1.055 OPS through April.

Whether you’re tracking future stars or just love the game, these performances remind us that the Astros’ pipeline is alive and well. Keep an eye on these names as they climb the ladder.
