Houston should be turning the page.

The Houston Astros may be approaching a pivotal crossroads—one that could reshape the franchise for years to come. After a decade defined by two World Series titles (2017, 2022) and consistent dominance, the team is now grappling with an aging roster, mounting injuries, and a roster that missed the postseason entirely in 2025.

Now, with a sluggish start to the current season, the whispers are growing louder: could the Astros become sellers at the trade deadline? And if so, could superstar slugger Yordan Alvarez be on the move?

FanSided's Christopher Kline recently laid out a compelling case, pointing to two key factors: Houston's weak farm system and an older, declining roster. "Houston has a weak farm system, a clunky payroll, and an older roster that appears to be declining in real time," Kline wrote. "Trading Álvarez would almost guarantee a spot near the bottom of the AL West standings, but with GM Dana Brown and head coach Joe Espada both on the hot seat, it's time for Houston to consider its future."

The logic is straightforward. Trading Alvarez—one of baseball's premier hitters when healthy—would bring back a treasure trove of prospects and MLB-ready talent. And with Alvarez under contract through 2028, the Astros have a valuable window to maximize his trade value. The sooner they act, the larger the potential return.

For a team that has long been the envy of the league, this would mark a dramatic shift. But in a sport where dynasties eventually fade, the Astros may need to decide: hold on to the past, or build for the future.
