When you think of legendary rivalries turning into lasting friendships, few pairings top Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan. After years of estrangement, these two NBA icons have officially mended fences—and they're planning to hit the links together soon. But if you're hoping for a dream foursome that includes Tiger Woods, don't hold your breath.
Barkley recently revealed that he and Jordan reconnected thanks to a mutual friend, former MLB star Vince Coleman. The golf outing is on, but Barkley made it crystal clear that Woods won't be joining them. And he didn't hold back explaining why.
Known for his unfiltered commentary—whether on Inside the NBA or in casual conversation—Barkley opened up about his fractured relationship with Woods during an ESPN Radio interview. When asked if he and Jordan might reach out to the golf legend, Barkley didn't sugarcoat things.
"I've never understood, to be honest with you, the whole Tiger situation," Barkley said. "Number one, I called his agent—I don't even have Tiger's number anymore—and said, 'Let the young guy know I love him, I hope he's gonna be alright.' I wish him nothing but the best. Obviously, he has a drug problem, and I got nothing but love for him. But he disowned us after one of those car accidents. I've not talked to him in probably—I can't even remember."
Woods has faced a series of personal challenges in recent years, including multiple automobile incidents. Most notably, in March of this year, he was arrested for DUI after a crash near his Florida home. Woods has since released a statement asking for privacy while seeking treatment for his struggles.
For Barkley, the distance isn't about anger—it's about clarity. "Tiger left us," he said simply. "I don't turn my back on people, but I know when someone doesn't want me in their life."
So while Barkley and Jordan are ready to tee it up and enjoy some friendly competition, don't expect Woods to be part of that round. Sometimes, even in sports, the toughest shots are the ones you take off the course.
