21 year old French tennis star Arthur Fils is the 2026 Barcelona Open champion. The straight set win over Andrey Rublev gave Fils his fourth career ATP title in five years on the tour.
Even though the upcoming French Open at Roland Garros will have 128 talented athletes including World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and defending champion and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, Fils is poised to make a lengthy run at this home tournament and should be considered a legitimate contender.
If Gael Monfils can not win in his final French Open appearance, the sentimental French fans will be pulling for Fils.
He made it to the Round of 16 at the 2025 French Open before his back issues that took him out of action for the rest of the season occurred. As a result, he retired and could not play his fourth round match.
Fils has paced himself in his return to the tour, skipping the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, but there was no rust on his clay court game this week in Barcelona.

Fils looks so happy to be healthy and playing again. There were whispers (none from confirmed sources) late last year that his back injury could shorten or end his career. Thankfully that was not the case, and he seems grateful and joyful to have another chance to compete.
